Aspen is a Colorado Rocky Mountain High, with a reputation for luxury living and expensive hotels, in ski season or in summer, but there are cheaper budget options too.

Aspen's best hotels may cost the earth, but there are some cheaper budget options when looking for somewhere to stay, such as renting a condo. When staying in Aspen it sometimes seems visitors are paying a premum just to breathe the same rarified air as the celebrities who have expensive homes there. Aspen has some of the most expensive real estate on the planet, so little wonder this is reflected in the prices of the little town's best hotels.

Aspen's Celebrity Residents

Some of the movie stars, musicians, sports stars and other celebrities who live or have lived in Aspen include

  • Jack Nicholson
  • David and Victoria Beckham
  • Kevin Costner
  • Michael Douglas
  • John Denver
  • Don Johnson
  • Martina Navratilova
  • Robert Wagner
  • Michelle Pfeiffer
  • Hunter S. Thompson

Best Hotels in Aspen

Some of the best Aspen hotels at the luxury end of the market include:

Hotel Jerome

  • 330 E Main Street

Probably the best address in Aspen for its combination of history (it opened in 1889), atmosphere, and top-quality service. The rooms are huge, it's right in the centre of town, and some of those Aspen celebrity residents are known to call in at the hotel's J-Bar where they can try to be one of the crowd. The Jerome also has its own pool and gym, and its Jacob's restaurant serves dishes such as grilled elk loin, organic Colorado chicken, or Rocky Mountain trout.

St Regis Resort

  • 315 E. Dean Street

Only a short stroll to the centre of Aspen, the St Regis oozes modern luxury just as the Jerome oozes history and tradition. The St Regis is also close to the slopes and is probably the best choice for well-heeled skiers. Its Remede Spa is the ultimate indulgence, and its Olives restaurant serves top quality Mediterranean cuisine. The St egis is also looking to green initiatives like instaling solar tubes to help reduce its carbon footprint.

Hotel Aspen

  • 110 W. Main St

A slightly more affordable option (by Aspen standards) the Hotel Aspen manages to combine a central location with stunning mountain views from many of the guest rooms. Try to book the Jacuzzi Suite for its private balcony with a Jacuzzi that must have one of the best views in the United States.

Cheap Aspen Condos

Not all Aspen condos are cheap but some do make an inexpensive accommodation option for visitors who maybe want to spend a week or more here. One excllent choice is The Gant at 610 W. End Street, which is on the edge of the town centre, an easy walk to all the shops and restaurants. The Gant also has its own heated outdoor pools, saunas, tennis courts, and hot tubs.
